How much of you do you own ?

If that sounds like a rhetorical question or a question with an obvious answer it might be time to look a little deeper.
Free thinking is the key to creating anything new. What is free thinking to you ?
Where do your limitations come from, what do we really actually know about what it means to "express life" ?
So, I guess I've always been someone who struggles with blind faith. As a child I tended towards questioning, always with the intention of needing to understand why a particular point of view had been reached before I was really comfortable in taking it on board and including it in my thinking. For me the idea of just accepting an opinion and removing the understanding of why, was an act of non-thinking. Put simply it took me out of the equation. Is it good or bad to think that way ? To be honest it got me into trouble more often than not simply because asking for clarification and needing to be convinced was seen as an act of defiance. I never really thought of it as good or bad, I believe it can be both, but the important point is that I do believe acceptance without questioning to always be limiting. It was never about arguing, always about searching.
Our lives are so unique, our experiences and interpretations are so individual. Yet our cultures, gender, social status, education, family dynamics, careers, religious beliefs etc. define us to the point where we find ourselves part of an expected, predetermined and generic status quo with little opportunity for change outside of the "norm". Therefore growth outside "the square" is limited and discouraged.
Humanity now exists within those confines and additional to them is the fact that we have a world wide culture built on economics where money drives the system. Then, in the tiny unclaimed spaces between the facades is our real self expression, but is it ?
If I asked you to tell me how much of your time in a 7 day period actually belongs to you, would you feel that you get a fair share ? What prioritises your time, when you eat, when you spend time with family or socially. How much of what you strive to achieve falls within a desire to "look the part", to demonstrate success as it is perceived within the system ?
For me so much of what we are is not what we are. That isn't mystical or new age. It is a simple observation that I think most people would agree with if they looked closely enough.
It makes me wonder then, why we don't ask questions.
Nature
noun
1. the phenomena of the physical world collectively, including plants, animals, the landscape, and other features and products of the earth, as opposed to humans or human creations.
The definition above is what you'll find if you ask professor google. It looks simple enough and would be widely accepted and taught, but again lets think about it. The last seven words have a lot of meaning. If it is true and we accept it as true, which a majority would then what are we actually saying.
Nature is opposed to humans or human creations.
In my mind simply because nature existed before humans inhabited the earth, then it would be more correct to say humans are opposed to nature and its creations.
Am I right ?
No matter how you look at the current thinking that drives the current man made system you would be hard pressed not to agree that human endeavour does not take the natural system into serious consideration. In fact it could be seen that humans have put in place a system to live by that by design sits totally separated from nature as is evident from the definition.
But most importantly it isn't man and nature, man is part of nature along with the rest of it.
When and why did we ever reach a point where we believed that we could be seperate ? It is arrogant, naive and unworkable.
This blog site is my small gesture towards trying to affect human thinking. It is a huge task to begin to even entertain the idea of the kind of changes required. More so because in so many cases our identities, our successes, our self expression and our beliefs are tied up in what has already been created by mankind. It has become our focus without us realising we made and continue to make that choice.
Just look at where we are, it is not hidden. Pollution is real and devastating, extinctions are real, lack of equality grows within our system, humans suffer daily from depression, self medicate and give up on life because they cant make it work for them. Crime is everywhere even within the very system that we turn to for reassurance. There are professions that exist purely as a result of a failure to keep humanity functioning. We know that to cage animals is detrimental, we speak out about it, yet we are all caged in a more subtle but equally devastating way. So much of the human footprint creates problems somewhere.
There is so much to say and think about that we turn away.

How smart are we ? Smart enough...,
Humans have split an atom, we have travelled into space, we have turned science fiction into science fact. We just need to apply our thinking to the right places and with different motivation. I'd love for this to simply be a starting point, if you agree, if you have things to say let me know. Keep it simple and open minded. I know I'm not the only one, I've hopefully planted a seed, help me nurture it and start a new crop that puts the expression of life through humanity as the motivator. Unlimited growth and increasing potential to naturally express what it is to be human within the untapped resources that the natural system provides. There must be so much more to discover.., if we make the effort to look.
New ideas, new thinking, new world.
